About the client
Edit Suits is a bespoke menswear retailer operating across eCommerce and showroom locations in the United Kingdom and Singapore. The company specializes in made-to-measure clothing, combining digital ordering with in-person tailoring services to deliver customized menswear through an integrated retail model.
Challenge
When Edit Suits approached our team, they already operated a customer-facing WordPress website for browsing collections and booking showroom appointments. They also relied on a basic web application used by tailors to record measurements and select samples for fitting sessions. However, as the business expanded, the existing system no longer matched the company’s operational needs and growth plans.
The app followed a rigid step-by-step fitting process, which lacked flexibility. For example, tailors could not collect measurements for multiple garments simultaneously, preventing customers from comparing all fitting samples together and slowing the overall experience. At the same time, structural issues in the legacy codebase made even small updates to workflows and garment offerings difficult and time-consuming.
To support catalog expansion and operational efficiency, Edit Suits required substantial restructuring of the existing tailoring software and improvement of its operational capabilities.
Project goals & challenges:
-
Transform the existing application into a custom clothing order management system.
-
Improve the fitting experience for showroom staff and customers.
-
Enable online ordering without mandatory showroom visits.
-
Provide management tools for monitoring sales, fabric demand, and staff performance.
-
Remove architectural limitations restricting catalog updates and platform modifications.
Solution
Since the client already operated a functioning but structurally limited application, this engagement involved elements of a software project takeover, workflow redesign and phased platform expansion.
Rather than rebuilding the system from scratch, our team worked closely with tailors and company managers to understand how fittings, ordering, and showroom operations functioned in practice. Based on these insights, we restructured and expanded the existing web application into a flexible tailoring order management system supporting showroom operations, online ordering, and business management processes.
The delivered solution included:
-
Tailor workspace. We redesigned the fitting workflow and developed a guided workspace enabling tailors to manage the entire order lifecycle within a single system. The platform supports measurement collection, garment and model selection, sample fitting, adjustment tracking, fabric and accessory selection, and documentation of customer design preferences. Particular attention was given to workflow flexibility, allowing tailors to adapt the fitting process to different customer scenarios.
-
Buyer portal integration. Through API integration with the Edit Suits website, we connected showroom and eCommerce experiences into a unified customer journey. Measurements collected during fittings became accessible within customer accounts, while buyers could also submit their own measurements and place repeat or remote orders without visiting a showroom. Order status and delivery information were synchronized and displayed directly through the website.
-
Management and reporting tools. To support multi-location operations, we implemented reporting capabilities providing managers with greater operational visibility. The system tracks and forecasts demand for sample sizes, fabrics, and accessories while also supporting sales analysis and evaluation of tailor performance based on fitting outcomes and post-production adjustments.
-
Scalable platform structure. Alongside functional expansion, the application was restructured to support future catalog growth, showroom expansion, and workflow changes without requiring extensive redevelopment. The entire project was delivered by a single full-stack developer over 13 months through a phased implementation and ongoing collaboration with client stakeholders.
The updated platform gave Edit Suits a more scalable foundation for managing custom clothing operations across both eCommerce and physical showrooms.
Technology stack:
-
Ruby on Rails
-
MySQL
-
CoffeeScript
-
React
-
JQuery
Results
Following the rollout of the new platform, Edit Suits reported operational improvements across showroom workflows, staff onboarding, and business scalability. By connecting fitting, ordering, and management processes within a single order management system, the company gained a more consistent and manageable operational model supporting both physical showrooms and online sales.
Project outcomes:
-
Faster and more flexible fitting process, improving the overall customer experience.
-
Consistent service quality across locations through structured fitting and order management processes.
-
Simplified tailor onboarding and reduced training effort thanks to guided workflows.
-
Easier expansion of garment offerings and showroom locations supported by a more adaptable platform structure.
-
Improved management oversight through centralized reporting and operational visibility.
By the end of the engagement, Edit Suits operated across eCommerce and six showroom locations while maintaining a lean internal team.
This project reflects our experience working with existing software systems that require restructuring and functional expansion to support evolving business operations. Through careful analysis, workflow redesign, and phased implementation, we help companies modernize and extend business-critical applications while preserving operational continuity.
Why this project matters
Many growing retail businesses reach a stage where operational processes outgrow the software originally built to support them. This project focused not only on adding features, but on restructuring workflows and system architecture to support long-term operational scalability.
